7 Books for 7 Areas of Focus — Chronicle of a Death Foretold
We're back with the third step of our "7 Books for 7 Areas of Focus" project. This month, in line with the Maternal and Child Health area of focus, we read Gabriel García Márquez's Chronicle of a Death Foretold. We're still collecting books for our Dream Library and continuing a reading journey full of awareness.
As for the link between the Maternal and Child Health area of focus and our book: This story of a town's fate unfolding in plain sight reveals not just a murder, but also the silence of society, the intuition of mothers and the vulnerability of children.
From a Rotaract perspective, it reminds us that maternal and child health is not only a physical issue, but an emotional and social one as well. Ignored warnings, unspoken truths and postponed responsibilities can have consequences so grave they may cost a child's life.
As we read this month, we're asking ourselves: as individuals and as a society, how much responsibility do we take for a child's health and safety?
